Professional Bio
After starting his career as a Chemical Engineer at I.C.I in Germany, Gerd Albracht attended the Technical University of Berlin and graduated as M.Sc. in Chemistry. After 3 more years of scientific work at the Institute he followed a steep career path at the German Chemistry, Paper and Ceramics Union (IGCPK) in Hannover, from 1977-1985 being the Director of the Environmental Protection Unit and also appointed as Executive Secretary.
In 1985 he was appointed Ministerial department director and head of "Environmental Policy, Waste Management and Emission Protection in the newly-formed Ministry of Labour and the Environment" of the State of Hesse. After managing the various consequences of the Chernobyl crisis successfully, he was appointed ministerial department director and head of Health and Safety, Safety Technology, Corporate Health and Safety in the Ministry of Social Affairs of the State of Hesse.
In 2002 he was appointed to the position at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, where he was Senior Specialist in Occupational Safety and Health and Head of the Labour Inspection Unit.
During his professional career, he was President of the Association of German Labour Inspectors and 10 years President of the International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI) as well as 12 years member of the EU Senior Labour Inspectors Committee and six years(1997-2003) member of the Governing Body of TUEV Süddeutschland in Munich.
Currently, he is Technical Advisor for the Executive Committee of the International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI).
