Imagine a world where 1.1 billion gig workers are powering economies globally. Picture the profound metamorphosis of our traditional work environment into a dynamic, boundary-less space. Welcome to the new frontier of work, one that is defined by irregularity, informality, and gig-based engagements.
In this symposium, we will navigate the nuances of this work revolution, challenge the adaptations of OSH strategies on app or web-based employment, and journey into the future, predicting the path of harm prevention in this rapidly blooming sector.
The protection of gig workers isn't a cookie-cutter scenario, it requires strategies as flexible and dynamic as the gig economy itself. But what about the gig platforms? How do they engage with their workers, ensure their OSH strategies are being applied and how do the guardians of worker safety - the regulators - fit into this evolving narrative? During this 90-minute session, we aim to create a vivid picture of the gig economy, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of platforms, regulatory learnings, workers experiences and tailor the responses required to shield gig workers from harm.
Together, let's shape the future of gig worker safety and health.
