Future-proofing an ageing workforce by improving movement intelligence and physical wellbeing

Workshop

Talk Description

The world’s increasingly ageing workforce presents organisations with some great riches in the form of experience, know-how and general workplace smarts. It also presents some serious challenges in the wake of an increased risk of musculoskeletal injury, rising mental health issues and a reduced capacity to perform physically demanding work.

Increasing physical resilience and wellbeing has been widely documented to be the key to arming this cohort against musculoskeletal injuries.  Typical approaches have been focused on increasing cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility; which are all effective, if executed successfully. The ability to participate in such programs however are dependent on whether an individual is physically able to engage in these programs.

Poor movement patterns are like building a house on unstable foundations; at some point it will start falling apart. Much like an IQ score does for intelligence, or an EQ score does for the capacity to use emotional responses in your favour, your MQ, or movement intelligence, provides an insight into the quality of your core functional movement patterns. Optimising your movement intelligence can increase the lifespan of your body, increase workability and enable engagement with physical wellbeing programs.

This interactive workshop will share and interpret the data from more than 10,000 individuals from organisations in Australia and New Zealand; in an effort to provide a different perspective on the steps necessary to build physical wellbeing and futureproof an ageing workforce.
