Ms. Shahnaz Akhter is the first female member of first United Nations INSARAG Certified Search and Rescue Team in South Asia. Currently, she is working as Head, Community Safety and Chief Public Information Officer in Punjab Emergency Service Department, Pakistan. She has over 17 years of multi field experience in emergency operations, trainings, information handling and volunteers’ management. She trained thousands of volunteers and established over 5000 Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) in all union councils of Punjab to develop safe communities. She led different initiatives like Snow Hike and physical exercise for healthy communities and also remained frontline in all disaster preparedness expeditions in extreme weather and snow. She also participated in Turkiye Rescue Operation and even personally extricated alive victim. She was selected to represent Pakistan Emergency Service at International Atomic Energy (IAEA) and other international forums.
