Samantha joined the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Great Britain’s Occupational Health and Safety national regulator, in 1995 as a Factory Inspector in London and the East of England dealing with a wide range of industry sectors. Samantha has held various roles within the organisation including responsibility for operational policy and European standards development for selected manufacturing industries. In 2002 Samantha obtained a Masters in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Law. She has since held a number of senior, managerial and operational delivery posts in HSE’s Field Operations Division including dealing for several years with construction. Samantha was promoted to the Senior Civil Service in 2013 and in May 2016 took over as the Director of Field Operations responsible for inspection, investigation and enforcement activity of all HSE regulated industries excluding construction and major hazards. Samantha leads a Division of around 650 people, both inspectors and administrative support, based in 25 locations across Great Britain. She is an Executive member of the International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI) and an IALI international assessor. Samantha led the IALI team that conducted the first International Benchmarking Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Regulations (IBOR) assessment of the Malaysian Inspectorate.
