Poh Hwa is a Senior Principal Specialist with the Ministry of Manpower’s Occupational Safety & Health Division (OSHD). He has provided specialist support to the Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate since 2018. In his 26-year professional career, Poh Hwa held various appointments in the public and private sectors and had contributed toward numerous projects in the construction industry. Notable projects he was involved with included the development of the Changi Naval Base, the International Cruise Terminal and the Tuas West Extension of Singapore’s rail network. Poh Hwa spent substantial parts of his career as a Contractor, a Design Consultant and a Project Manager. His last appointments in the private sector was as a Principal in his own practice, and as a Technical Director in a multi-national practice prior to that. Poh Hwa is a registered Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers Board, and is both a Qualified Erosion Control Professional (QECP) and a Design for Safety (DfS) Professional by training. Since 2018, he had supported investigations into workplace accidents and had conducted numerous workplace inspections involving DfS. Poh Hwa actively promotes DfS awareness in the industry and also participates in the development and promotion of WSH-related technical standards with the Singapore Standards Council.
