Ms. Patience Awhavbera is a Liberian female who is passionate about the environment and has been working in this sector for over six years. Ms. Awhavbera holds a masters degree in Environmental Science & Engineering from the Hohai University, China. She currently works at the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) as an Environmental Safeguard Specialist on World Bank funded projects. At LEC, she monitors construction works implemented by contractors/sub-contractors to ensure compliance with safety guidelines. She also conducts field inspection exercises, safety training for workers, incident investigation and develop environmental and safety policy documents for LEC. Her desire is to see that project activities are implemented in an environmentally sustainable manner that does not cause harm to the workers, communities and the general public. Through her endeavor, there has been significant positive change in the safety culture at LEC particularly, among workers, supervisors, contractors and subcontractors. She looks forward to more insight, ideas and better technology for health and safety improvement at her workplace and institution.
