Dr Isaac Mate is a strategic Sustainability and Risk Management Leader with two decades experience in identifying, assessing and managing strategic and operational risks in mining, construction, telecommunication, consulting and energy infrastructure industries. He speaks and writes English fluently and has spoken and working knowledge of French and German.
Dr Mate has held very senior management positions with multinationals such as MTN, Rio Tinto, BHP and Anglo Gold Ashanti in English and French - speaking West Africa countries.
Currently Dr. Mate works as an HSE and Risk Director with CEC Africa Investment Limited, a Pan – African Energy Infrastructure and Management Company where he provides strategic planning and execution of major HSE and Risk Management initiatives across the Group. He is a board member of North South Power (NSP) Company, one of the subsidiaries of CEC Africa. NSP is a global energy company that owns and operates a 600 MW Hydropower Plant in Nigeria. He advises the board on Sustainability / HSE and Risk Management Strategy and Operations.
Dr. Mate holds a PhD in Safety Risk management from The University of Queensland, Australia. His research focused on Safety Risk Management practices in African Mining and Energy Infrastructure Industries. He holds a B Sc degree in mining from University of Mines and Technology UMaT, (Gh); Masters in Quality Safety & Environment (QSE) from Otto von Guericke University, Germany, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (UK) from University of Bradford, UK. He is an alumnus of Harvard University, USA, London Business School, UK and MIT, USA. Currently he is enrolled on the LEAD Executive Education Course at Stanford Graduate Business School, USA.
He is married to Sally. Together, they have a daughter, Adlynn and a son, Adrien. He enjoys travelling and learning about other cultures.
