Carlo is an academic at the School of Aviation at the University of NSW, Sydney, and is currently Associate Dean Equity Diversity and Inclusion in the Faculty of Science, UNSW. He has expertise in safety and human factors and conducts research across a range of industrial domains including transport and health. He has skills in qualitative and quantitative research, research design and translation. He is a recognised expert in psychosocial hazards at work and has worked with several industries to provide expert commentary, advice, workshops, and training (e.g. Safe Work Australia, Fair Work Commission). He is regularly called to provide expert opinions to the court regarding safe systems of work. Carlo serves on the Safework NSW MSD Consultative committee and contributed to the new Codes of Practice on psychological health at work developed by Safework NSW and Workplace Health and Safety QLD. Carlo is a member of the Standards Australia committee SF-001 Safety management, which oversees AS/NZS/ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and was a leader in the development of the new guidance standard on Psychological health at work (ISO45003). He is the current chair of ISO TC283 Task Group 2: Terminology and Clarifications. Carlo is the Past-President of the International Association on Workplace Bullying and Harassment (IAWBH).
