Abena is a Chartered Surveyor with over 5 years’ experience in the real estate industry in Ghana. She is a member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, and currently works as the Operation and Properties Manager at CCL Properties Management Company Limited, a firm which specialises in parking, traffic, and property management. Her role involves ensuring that properties are safe for users such as maintenance personnel, tenants, and the public. This involves planning and supervising maintenance works and ensuring users’ adherence to safety standards. Abena also works as a business and development consultant for Accusys Engineering, a company which specialises in wastewater treatment. She also regularly provides consultancy services for businesses that specialise in property and asset valuation, and land sales and acquisition. Abena has keen interest in the health and safety of young construction workers, and this has led her to collaborate with other researchers and organisations, both local and international, to undertake research on youth health and safety in Ghana’s construction industry. Her research focuses on the management of young peoples’ workplace mental and physical health, as well as stakeholder issues in occupational health and safety. This has resulted in the publication of a technical report, policy briefs, and articles in prestigious journals such as Safety Science. She has also participated in several programmes to create awareness for the promotion of young construction workers’ health and safety in the Global South. Abena aspires to be an internationally recognised youth health and safety consultant in the built environment sector.
